Trash in the Ocean

In the article "Murky Waters" it states how the ocean is threated because many people are throwing away trash on the beaches, especially plastic. I agree with the article that the ocean is threatened and we should step up and do something to solve the problem. One reason I agree with the article is that because it states "More than 250 dolphins with eerie smiles plastered on their ulcerated mouths washed ashore along the Atlantic Coast during the summer of 1987; coastal sewage laced with industrial toxins is a prime suspect in their deaths"(Issues & Controversies). This shows how the toxins affected the dolphin’s bodies by poisoning them. Knowing this fact, should make people feel bad about them, about how they are killing innocent lives by just littering. There was a similar disaster where plastics were thrown into the Bering Sea which killed about 40,000 fur seals. This shows how humans are evil beings who litter, causing death to innocent lives of sea creatures in the ocean. Another reason I agree with this article is that because fish are losing their homes because in "Alabama, Mobile Bay residents wade into the waters, net up thousands of the struggling fish, crabs and shrimp, and haul them home in garbage cans"(Issues & Controversies). Sea creatures are losing their homes because of this disaster of people hauling them home in garbage cans. Also in the article it states how Los Angeles beach-goers leave around 75 tons of trash on the beach which then eventually floats into the ocean causing harm to the animals in the ocean. Lastly, I agree with the article that we should step up and do something although it will "take time, patience and money to determine what we must do to regain our healthy oceans"(Issues & Controversies). Although it will take a while we can't wait for another innocent life to be taken away by us lousy humans. Therefore we should not wait and let things get out of hand, but what we should do it go out there and save innocent lives.

Recycling

Recycling is a method to treat or process used or waste materials to make suitable for reuse. According to the article "Recycling" by Science Clarified, it states how recycling is very important because it helps the environment by reducing pollution. As a result, the more we recycle the cleaner the environment will stay. There are many reasons I agree with the article that recycling is important to the environment. One reason is that if we recycle then we can save a lot of money in production and energy costs. In fact the more we recycle the less new material we use, as a result the cost of everything will drop and less trash would be disposed. Another reason, recycling is important is because the more trash we throw away the more we don't reuse, the more the landfills we fill up, causing the landfills to cause pollution and bad odor in the air, affecting the environment. Above all, recycling helps provide jobs to the people in need. In fact, this is a start for our economy to grow out of unemployment, and start a better life to help the environment. In the article it states that we should "use the power of government to encourage or even require recycling” (Recycling). I agree with statement because the more we recycle the more money the government saves on trash disposal. As a result, if the government doesn't pay a lot to dispose trash the less the government is in debt therefore helping the economy. Lastly, recycling is important because the more we recycle the fewer landfills we have for example in the article it states "In 1978, there were roughly 14,000 landfills in the United States. This shows how recycling was a not a big thing back then in the 1900’s. In the year 2000, that number had dropped to just over 5,000” (Recycling). Recycling is now the new, fast, and clean method to reduce trash. In fact, look how recycling reduced 9000 landfills in 22 years. Therefore if we keep recycling it will help reduce our landfills and make our environment a better, greener place to live in.

Building Landfills Cause More Pollution

According to the article "Trash Problems" it states how landfills overflowing have been a problem, as a result more landfills are building, and therefore garbage trucks are charging more money to people to take the trash to landfills. Henceforth, people are throwing away their trash in the ocean, forest, and other environmental places. I agree with the article for many reasons. One reason is that if we let landfills overflow, garbage trucks are going to charge more money to the people. Consequently, more and more people are going to throw their trash somewhere else other than the landfills provided because of the cost. As a result, the ocean would get  more polluted and filled with trash, consequently killing the animals and other living organisms in the ocean. In the article it states "Since the 1940s, plastic has increased dramatically. It can harm or kill many animals. Many animals mistake the plastic for food, resulting in eating the plastic. They have also become entangled in discarded or lost nets"(Trash Problems). This shows how if we don’t put an end to this disaster then more and more lives of animals are going to be in danger. Another reason I agree with the article that trash is a problem, affecting the environment is that because many Americans don't recycle and if we don't it would affect the environment. It states in the article "The garbage of today doesn’t just carry a bad odor, but it is also bad for the environment"(Trash Problems). Lastly, I agree with this article that trash is affecting the environment because the trash on the roads and sewers makes pollution another problem. We know that pollution is bad for the air and citizens like us so therefore we need to act on this problem and reduce pollution.
